Abstract
Of great importance for increasing production and improving the quality of mutton is the widespread introduction of fattening sheep on feed produced under economic conditions – hay, straw, green matter and concentrates, as well as on cotton waste. Fattening should be understood as intensive feeding of animals intended for slaughter for a relatively short time, which ensures an increase in live weight and fat deposition in the body, resulting in a sharp increase in meat productivity and improved meat quality. Previously, when adult boulders, culled sheep and queens were mainly fed, fattening was considered as a means of baiting animals and bringing them to a high degree of fattening. Sheep farming, as the least demanding type of animal husbandry to natural conditions and food supply, has an extensive geography, but has received the greatest development in countries where dry steppes, semi-deserts and mountainous regions occupy vast territories. Australia (130 million sheep), China (120 million sheep), New Zealand, India, Turkey, Kazakhstan, Russia, Mongolia, Argentina, and Uruguay have large sheep populations. These countries are also leaders in the production of mutton and wool. The main exporters of mutton and wool are Australia, New Zealand, and Argentina
