Abstract

Tailings dumps are accumulations of waste from the mining industry. Tailings are waste products of mineral processing with a lower content of a valuable component than in the feedstock, since they are dominated by waste rock particles. Waste that has not found use — highly toxic, radioactive or requiring new processing technologies — is subject to long-term storage. Facilities for their long-term storage must ensure the protection of the environment (groundwater, soil, atmospheric air, flora and fauna) from negative influence. Currently, geosynthetic materials are used in the construction of PFE (anti-filtration screens), which make it possible to shorten the construction time and reduce the amount of material consumption. Geomembrane is a film material made of synthetic polymers. Geomembranes are used both in the construction of earthen and concrete dams and their repair. In underground dams, a diaphragm or screens are made of them, in concrete dams, geomembrane is glued to the upper face of the dam, ensuring its water resistance. The purpose of this article is to describe the technology of using anti-filtration elements from geomembrane for the construction of a tailings storage facility
