Abstract
The work analyzed the process and dynamics of the improvement of the Tien Shan breed in more than half a century period. Four stages of selection, breeding and scientific work have been identified. The tasks and methods of selection of each stage are reflected. As a result of the strengthening of the breeding base, the number of breeds and animals of the desired type has increased. By introductory crossing of uterus, the Tien Shan breed with the rams of the Australian Corridel, Suffolk and North Caucasian meat-and-wool sheep, the meat and wool qualities of the sheep were improved
