METHOD FOR PROTECTING HERD HORSES FROM BLOOD-SUCKING INSECTS AND GADDIES

Abstract

Herd horses of Yakutia graze all year round independently on pastures,feeding on pasture and waiting for the onset of a fertile summer with abundant green fodder. The summer period for herd horses is overshadowed by a massive attack on horses of bloodsucking insects and adults of gastrointestinal gadflies. In Central Yakutia, in the evening peak, the number of mosquitoes for 5-minute count averages 117 specimens. During the mass flight of horseflies from late June to mid-July, up to 57–62 horseflies attack a bait horse in a 15-minute count. Gastric gadflies are also widespread in Yakutia, the prevalence of invasion is 100% with an average intensity of 225–230 larvae per animal, the loss of growth in horse meat production is up to 20.6 kg of meat. In the Republic, the problem of protecting farm animals from the attack of midges and adults of gastric gadflies remains, which causes further research
